چکیده

At threshold irradiation (•—0.1 w./cm.) of the rabbit cornea with a carbon dioxide (COi) laser, there was no detectable rise in intraocular pressure and only a slight (1 to 2° C.) rise in aqueous temperature. On suprathreshold COt corneal irradiation, the intraocular pressure rose to a plateau, during irradiation and then gradually fell. There was a concomitant rise in temperature in the anterior chamber caused by heat conduction from the site of corneal irradiation. Further rise in the temperature of the corneal stroma to the critical temperature range for heat shrinkage of collagen causes the cornea to thicken. This thickening of the cornea helps to bring heated aqueous under the irradiated site more closely in apposition to the lens and iris, thus further increasing the temperature of the anterior lens. Lens indentation was observed in fixed eyes only following pulses of sufficient power and duration to raise the temperature near the surface of the anterior lens to a range of at least 60 to 70° C. Increase in aqueous protein occurred only with irradiation over regions of the iris diaphragm.

Does selective laser trabeculoplasty treatment affect anterior chamber angle?

The Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a treatment method for primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). It applies laser beams directly to anterior chamber angle (ACA) and leads some degree of alteration in the trabecular meshwork. This study was conducted to evaluate ACA alterations after the SLT treatment. A prospective crosssectional study performed on 53 eyes of 27 POAG patients. A single s...

Thermal load from a CO2 laser radiant energy source induces changes in corneal surface asphericity, roughness, and transverse contraction.

PURPOSE We examined corneal surface response to an isolated thermal load. METHODS Cadaveric porcine eyes were pressurized and stabilized for processing and imaging. A carbon dioxide (CO2) laser (1.75 W) delivered a uniform disk of continuous wave thermal radiant energy to the exposed corneal stromal surface without ablation. Thermal load was determined by measuring corneal surface temperature...

Comparison of Corneal and Anterior Chamber Parameters following Myopic laser in situ keratomileusis and photorefractive keratectomy by Pentacam as A New Imaging Technique

Purpose: To compare changes in posterior corneal elevation, anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber volume (ACV) and corneal volume (CV) after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK ) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for low to moderate myopia by pentacam imaging Methods: In this prospective comparative case series, 105 consecutive myopic eyes randomly scheduled for LASIK (n=59) or PRK...

Posterior Corneal Surface Stability after Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Keratomileusis

The purpose of this study was to evaluate posterior corneal surface variation after femtosecond laser-assisted keratomileusis in patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism. Patients were evaluated by corneal tomography preoperatively and at 1, 6, and 12 months. We analyzed changes in the posterior corneal curvature, posterior corneal elevation, and anterior chamber depth. Moreover, we explored...

Anterior chamber gas bubbles after corneal flap creation with a femtosecond laser.

A 48-year-old woman had bilateral wavefront-guided laser in situ keratomileusis for myopia with IntraLase corneal flap creation. In the right eye the cavitation bubbles were observed not only in the interface between the flap and the corneal bed but also in the anterior chamber disappearing after 30 minutes. After the procedure, uncorrected visual acuity is 20/25 in both eyes; and specular micr...
